Simu Liu plays the lead character as Shang-Chi. Shang-Chi is a master of numerous unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles, including the use of the gun, nunchaku, and jian.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the next highly anticipated installment in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Packed with an all-Asian cast, Simu Liu plays the lead character as Shang-Chi. Though Marvel’s next big screen superhero may sound like a new name for many, Shang-Chi has been around the Marvel Comics universe since his debut in 1973. It was during that time when martial arts became a huge craze amongst many American kids, with the likes of Bruce Lee or The Karate Kid as leading inspiration. With that said, Shang-Chi couldn’t have debuted at a more appropriate time.
Now, forty-eight years later, Shang-Chi will be gracing the silver screen for the first time ever in what looks to be another blockbuster film by Marvel. Not much is known about the plot of the movie, but you can bet that this will be an origin story that will set the roadmap for his story to be told over a series of movies in the next phases of the MCU, eventually leading to him joining the Avengers just like in the comics.

Also starring in this movie is the talented and entertaining, Awkwafina. She plays Shang-Chi’s close friend, Katy, who is described as relatable and having a real heart. Her presence in the film can help lend some comedic relief in what seems to be an action-packed movie. However, it would be nice to see if the writers gave her a more serious role so that she can show the many viewers that she is a very talented actress who can do more than just be the comedian of the film. The star-studded cast also includes Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Ronny Chieng.
With Covid restrictions beginning to ease up in the United States, many movie theaters are opening across the nation. While many movies have made a direct-to-stream premiere, there is no place like the big screen! Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the perfect “welcome back to the movies” that we all need. We are excited for the next phase of the MCU to finally kick in, and by the looks of it, we will not be disappointed.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to release on September 3, 2021. It will have a 45-day exclusive theatrical release, rather than releasing simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+. Will you be seeing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings? Let us know in the comments below!
